During National Volunteer Month in April, BJC HealthCare recognizes the thousands of people who selflessly share their time and skills with us as volunteers.
Volunteers across the organization help out in myriad ways, including greeting patients, acting as navigators, and staffing gift shops.
When the COVID-19 pandemic kept all but absolutely essential staff out of the hospitals, clinics and offices, we missed the willing hands and welcoming smiles that we had come to rely on. Just as we missed our volunteers, we know they missed volunteering.
Now, almost exactly two years after suspending volunteer activities, BJC is slowly and safely beginning to welcome our volunteers back. And we are glad to have them.
If the past two years have shown us anything, it’s that volunteers are the not-so-secret ingredient that makes BJC HealthCare run a little smoother, feel a little warmer and shine a little brighter.

Our Auxiliary assists Parkland Health Center by facilitating projects that help with patient care. It also offers volunteers from the community the opportunity to offer their time, making the patient experience more personal.
BJC’s COVID precautions are still in place and all of our staff, including volunteers, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, adhere to our masking guidelines, screen for symptoms, be mindful of social distancing and wash hands/sanitize surfaces frequently.
