Parkland Health Center is pleased to announce that Kenny Brewer, RN, has been selected as the ICARE Star Service Team Member for October 2018. Kenny works where needed in the intensive care, emergency, geriatric psychiatry and OB departments, working most frequently as house supervisor in the emergency and intensive care departments. Kenny has worked at Parkland Health Center for two years.
Excerpts from Kenny’s nomination read, “Our Star Service Employee for October is a jack of all trades. He works float pool, ICU, supervisor and ER. He always asks if we need anything. He explains his decisions and will ask if we have a better idea. He is the type of employee that showcases BJC/PHC in a positive way to his co-workers, patients and families. If asked he is always willing and ready! He is an awesome co-worker.”
When asked what he likes about his job, Kenny replied, “The people, of course; patients and co-workers.” Kenny has been a nurse since 1994, and he speaks very highly of how much he likes his profession, especially connecting with and helping make things better for patients and co-workers. He summed it up as follows: “I have fun. It’s been really good for me and for my family.” When asked how he felt about receiving this award, he said, “It was surprising.” He explained that he is not a person seeking the limelight, but he certainly appreciates being honored with this award.
ICARE is Parkland’s patient experience service initiative and the acronym stands for the following values; Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.
