Parkland Health Center is pleased to announce that Terri L. Schmitt has accepted the position of manager, patient experience at Parkland Health Center. She began in her new role in late November 2016, having joined the Parkland team several months earlier as a consultant in performance improvement.
In Schmitt’s expanded role at Parkland, she is responsible for leading the implementation of Parkland’s patient experience service initiative, called “ICARE.” ICARE is based on the values of Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. This service excellence initiative will build upon Parkland’s Journey to Excellence service model and the Studer Principles service excellence model that was practiced at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, one of Parkland’s predecessors. Schmitt’s task is to lead the ICARE service excellence initiative at Parkland with an overall goal of not only meeting the needs of patients but making sure patients and their families, as well as all Parkland staff, have an excellent experience at Parkland.
Schmitt stated, “Our patients are our priority. In implementing ICARE I will be working with staff to ensure they have the resources and leadership needed to continue and build upon the exceptional work they do. The end goal is to provide an excellent experience for our patients, their families, our staff, and the community as a whole.”
Terri earned her Bachelor of Science degree in therapeutic recreation from Southwest Missouri State University and a master’s degree in health care administration from Webster University. Prior to joining Parkland, she worked at both St. Louis Children’s Hospital and Barnes Jewish Hospital in the position of patient safety and quality/performance improvement specialist. In addition, earlier experience includes several positions at Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center.
In addition to enjoying her two grandchildren, Terri has many interests, including serving in several roles at her church. Furthermore, Terri is an advocate for mental health initiatives and she enjoys classical music and the outdoors.
